Thoughts on Apostasy

Todd Friel recently responded to a video posted by a former megachurch pastor on why he “deconstructed” from the faith. I think it’s a great response that points out the folly of the non-arguments this fellow puts forth. You should give it a watch.

Some things that Dr. Phillips (the “deconstructionist” in the video) said made me really think about these particular Bible verses. Look them up in context and chew on them:

‘But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’

Luke 16:30-31

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

Romans 1:18-19

They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

1 John 2:19
