Defend the Faith

See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.

Colossians 2:8

The Christian life is not a playground, but a battleground. We are constantly being assaulted both from without and within. The enemy wants to steal your hope and shipwreck your faith. Apologetics is the discipline where we learn to mount a defense of our faith, and the starting point is to understand the nature of the Word of God.

Why should we trust the Bible? Has it really been translated, re-translated and modified over the centuries? Did the church decide on the canon of Scripture at Nicea in the 4th century? Fortunately, we have all the reason in the world to trust in our Scriptures. I could write a lot about why we should trust the Bible, but I think it would be easier to just point you to these excellent videos below:

The Bible is a reliable collection of historical documents, written by eyewitnesses during the lifetime of other eyewitnesses. They report supernatural events that took place in fulfillment of specific prophecies, and they claim to be divine rather than human in origin.

Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr.

… knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
